Six weeks of household removal

Moving is a long process. In order it went smoothly, read the following recommendations:

Six weeks before moving

Get acquainted with the area where you are going to move. Shopping centres, services, schools, catering and leisure time. Do not forget to examine the traffic-related peculiarities and regional every day traditions.
Get acquainted with the house plan and decide where you would like to place larger items at your new home.
If your new home has previous owner’s "heritage", decide what you are going to do with it – what you are going to use and what you are going to throw away.

Five weeks before moving

You are keeping to schedule if you have booked or ordered transport and people needed for moving or you have arranged them in any other way.
ou have written down your everyday items and divided them into two parts depending on the daily necessity.

Four weeks before moving

You do not have any other responsibilities during the day before and after moving.
If you are unable to settle down in your new home on the same day, you have thought through your temporary accommodation and taken necessary measures.
You have started packing items that are not necessary in everyday life.
You have ordered moving insurance if you find it necessary.
You have thought through logistics-related questions. Can the removal van stop at your house without problems? Which hours should be avoided in this area when moving?

Three weeks before moving

If you do not use the help of a moving company, it is time to obtain necessary packaging materials and aid for moving. Boxes, bubble film, adhesive tape etc. Do not leave it to the last minute!
You have arranged the closing of Internet and telephone services in the old place and opening of them in the new place.
If you move further, you have found the new local family doctor, dentist, hairdresser and a grocery.

Two weeks before moving

You have informed the relevant people, institutions and service providers of your new address. Your grandmother’s post card and the invoice of Eesti Energia come to the new postbox.
You know what you are going to do with your children and pets on the day of moving – who is going to look after them and when you are going to let them at the new home.

A week before moving

You have ordered the post forwarding service from the post office.
Your refrigerator is getting empty
All the items not necessary. All the items not necessary in everyday life have been packed.

Long-waited moving day

Your things have been packed, refrigerator is empty and the communication and public utilities services have been stopped.
Fix the measures of electricity, water and gas utilities.
Your moving company has a clear overview of the things to be moved and the situation.
Check your old home once more, to be sure that you have not forgotten anything.
